PM Reforms Programme fully focusses on imparting quality education

ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (APP): Sole objective of Prime Minister’s Education Reforms Programme is to impart quality education to the students of federal public educational institutions, rather than just focusing on the renovation of old buildings and the task can be accomplished through hiring qualified teachers and upgradation of national curricula.

In order to redress widespread concerns of the public, the federal government has been making efforts to achieve the target of quality education through teachers training programme.

To achieve the target, the government has allocated an amount of more than Rs 4.50 billion for Prime Minister Education Reforms Programme to make the schools and colleges of the capital and its suburbs a role model for the rest of the country.

On the special demand of parents of students, the federal government initiated prompt measures on war-footing basis to address the main problems of government educational institutions, particularly in the suburban areas, to ensure a better and bright future for children.

Generally, parents are forced to get their children enrolled in private educational institutions due to lack of facilities such as toilets, playgrounds, transport, clean drinking water and trained teachers, besides neglected buildings of government schools and colleges in the federal capital. However, salaried class and low-income people can not afford the high fees these private schools and colleges.

The government, in this regard, has launched Prime Minister Education Reforms Programme to renovate the buildings of 422 government schools and colleges besides improving teacher training to ensure standard of education.

Additionally, the schools are being provided new science and IT laboratories, libraries, a fleet of 200 extra buses, new buildings, 300 new rooms, clean drinking water, and sports grounds.

Talking to APP, Director Colleges Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Prof. Dr Tariq Masood said, “I hope its implementation would bring a remarkable improvement in suburban schools which are in bad shape.” The programme includes refresher courses for teachers and foreign scholarships for the most promising young teachers.

He said the government would also provide maximum funds to offer children and students quality education. The Prime Minister while initiating the programme, he said wished to see all federal schools and colleges equipped with state-of-the-art facilities as PM wants to see each and every kid of the capital territory enrolled in schools.

Tariq said a computerized system would be introduced to monitor all educational institutions in the federal capital, while bio-metric systems would ensure attendance and punctuality of the teaching staff.

The upgraded system would also enable the parents to keep in touch with schools through Email and SMS.

The promotion of the teachers would be decided on their training programmes and performance, he said and added, those who produced best results, would be duly rewarded.

Muhammad Nadeem, father of school-going-students in Chak Shahzad said “Education is the only way forward to prepare the youth to cope with the challenges of the contemporary world.” Reforms in education sector through improved curriculum, teachers’ training and facilities are need of the hour, he added.

Aftab Tariq, a Professor at Islamabad Model College for Boys F/6-4, said “Quality education can be imparted to the students only if teachers are satisfied with their jobs.”

He said the infrastructural reforms of the government are appreciable. The plans were also welcomed by a number of school teachers and lecturers of the federal capital.

Muhammad Usman, a public school teacher said the enrollment in public schools has been observed increasing after start of the education reforms programme.

In the current year, he said a number of students left private schools and took admission in public schools due to the positive impression of the reforms programme.
