ECP to take action against responsible for delay in elections on 26 seats

ECP to take action against responsible for delay in elections on 26 seats

ISLAMABAD, Nov 3 (APP): The Election Commission of
Pakistan (ECP) has decided to take action against election
staff involved in mismanagement due to which, the polls of first
phase were postponed on 26 seats at various localities in Punjab
and Sindh provinces.
The commission received around 156 complaints of various
nature against the local government election, said spokesman of
the ECP.
He said that the ECP received 55 complaints from
Punjab and 101 from Sindh on various issues including
misprinting of election symbols, candidates’ names or against
the election staff.
Action would be taken against the election staff
that failed to adhere to the election code of conduct, he added.
He said that independent election observers
and organizations also declared campaigning and polling for
the local government elections, transparent and peaceful.
He said that overall, the election was peaceful except
a firing incident that killed 11 people in Khairpur district of Sindh.
Spokesman also claimed that the ECP would overcome
shortcomings of electoral process in next polls.
He observed that the elections were held free, fair
and transparent manners without being subject of the
respective provincial governments.
It is pertinent to mention here that the first phase
of LG polls contest was held in 12 districts of Punjab and 8 of Sindh.
Meanwhile,according to media reports, a
non governmental organization, Free and Fair Election Network
(Fafen) has also observed that the first phase of the local
bodies (LB) elections was better than that in the past.
The first phases of local government (LG) election
in Punjab’s 12 districts were conducted peacefully and
in transparent manner, said representative of Fafen.
Punjab government deserved appreciation for
maintaining peace during the elections, he said adding that
the local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were marred
by violence and irregularities.
Moreover, Punjab Election Commissioner has also
claimed that the first phase of local bodies (LB) elections
was transparent and rigging free in the province.
He said no complaint of rigging had been received
from any district and atmosphere within polling stations
remained smooth.
